Electrolysis Hair No More

Leila Lau - Wednesday, July 20, 2011

What is Electrolysis?

Electrolysis is the only form of permanent hair removal approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and can be used on all parts of the body to remove hair including facial hair (upper lip or chin)  bikini line, feet, hands, chest and back.

How does it Work?

Electrolysis is the process of permanent hair removal where an electrified, very fine needle shaped electrode is inserted into each hair follicle on the surface of the skin to destroy the follicle root. The hair is then removed manually with tweezers. For this process to be effective and permanent, the hair follicle must be treated in its growth stage.

Hair growth occurs in 3 different stages

  • Growing
  • Resting
  • Shedding
As all hair grows at different stages, several sessions of Electrolysis is required to ensure permanent hair removal has occurred. The individual hair has been treated in its growth stage so multiple visits may be required.

Electrolysis is the best performer in permanent hair removal competition.

Electrolysis versus Laser Removal

Electrolysis attacks the hair follicle and not the hair pigment as in laser hair removal, people who cannot receive laser hair removal can have successful outcomes with electrolysis.
Bent hair follicles caused by other forms of temporary hair removal can make electrolysis difficult

You will need to make multiple sessions for the electrolysis process to be completely successful.

Electrolysis and its Risks.

The Electrolysis procedure does have its risks.  There is the possibility of skin discoloration, but this only occurs if the procedure has been conducted incorrectly.  Ensure your electrolysis technician is reputable. Electrolysis is effective, reliable and safe.

What's the Deal with Diathermy

Leila Lau - Wednesday, July 20, 2011

Is a fantastic way to painlessly and effectively removal superficial skin imperfections.

Diathermy is the use of a high frequency electrical current which produces heat to remove skin anomalies such as skin tags, flat moles, age spots and broken capillaries.

Diathermy is a non invasive procedure with a very quick recovery time compared to other cosmetic surgery and procedures.

How does Diathermy work?

A thin probe better known a very fine needle is placed into the area to be treated, cauterising the tissue, effectively removing blood flow from that area.  The treated area then dies, shrivels and effectively falls away after a few days to one week.  During the healing process it is very important to stay away from direct sunlight and apply effective sun protection to avoid skin damage. The total healing process can take one to two weeks. The process of Diathermy is fast, effective and very affordable. A mild anaesthetic can be applied prior to the diathermy process to ensure a complete pain free experience.

Diathermy can effectively remove many skin lesions and imperfections.

The list includes:

  • Skin tags

  • Flat moles

  • Age spots and sun spots

  • Cherry Angiomas

  • Cholesterol deposits

  • Sebaceous Hyperplasia

  • Warts

  • Calcium Deposits

  • Milia

  • Xanthelasmas

It is recommended that you have any moles or skin lesions checked by a professional to ensure they are benign and safe to remove using Diathermy.

Facials

Leila Lau - Wednesday, July 20, 2011

What is a facial?

Facial massage therapy is an ancient form of healing. Regular facial massages in conjunction with specialised skin care products can keep skin looking youthful, smooth, firm and more beautiful.

Facial massage accomplishes this by releasing tension focused in the facial area minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, increase circulation, strengthening facial muscles, equalising  your natural skin moisture balance, reducing impurities and toxins, and increasing the natural radiance of your skin and suitable for both men and women.

A facial is a skin treatment for the face, neck and shoulders which is performed by a licensed aesthetician.  There are many types of facials and a variety of products used and last about an hour.

The following facials are available from Beaucare Skin and Body

Deep Cleansing Facial (recommended for congested clogged skin)

Spa Facial (recommended for dull and tired skin leaving you feeling refreshed and nourished)

Beaucare Classic Facial (specifically designed for you and your needs)

European Deep Cleansing Facial (to be totally pampered and complete skin treatment)

Anti Aging Facial (to feel completely rejuvenated and rehydrated)

What to expect when having a facial apart from it feeling fabulous and totally relaxing.

The skin will be thoroughly cleansed using specific facial cleansers selected for your skin type (normal, dry, oily, combination, sensitive, mature)

The aesthetician will then conduct a skin analysis and evaluation, identify any skin conditions and find treatments that will best tone and moisturizer your type.

Exfoliation will follow skin analysis. This involves the gentle rubbing of a grainy textured paste removing all dead skin cells from the treated areas to expose the healthy new skin cells below.

Now comes the best part.  “The Facial Massage”  This is done by using classic facial massage strokes like effleurage in a light upward motions to relax and stimulate your facial muscles and skin, restoring energy to your face and body by increasing circulation.
Regular facial massages also work to tighten and lift the facial muscles, giving the skin a more vibrant, youthful appearance.

A Facial Mask is then applied that is suitable for your skin type and condition (normal, dry, oily, combination, sensitive, mature)

Next, comes the toner and protective creams followed by advice on home skin care and specific products to maintain a successful skin care regime that is specifically tailor to your skin type and condition

You will leave feeling completely relaxed, with beautiful smooth radiant skin, your facial muscles  feeling firm and youthful.

Why we lead in laser tattoo removal

Leila Lau - Tuesday, July 19, 2011

Beaucare International is an industry leader in the area of Laser Tattoo Removal technology, using the most up-to-date equipment and industry knowledge to complete the process of laser tattoo removal.

What is a Tattoo?

A tattoo is a grouping of ink and dye particles that are imbedded beneath the top layer of the skin. Because the body is not able to absorb such concentrated deposits of ink, it forms a protective layer of collagen around the tattoo, making it permanent.

Types of Tattoos

There are four main types of tattoos:
  • Decorative tattoos are made by repeatedly puncturing the skin with a needle saturated with coloured ink.
  • Cosmetic tattoos such as lip liner, eyeliner and eyebrow tattoos are usually applied by a beautician.
  • Traumatic tattoos can occur if the skin is grazed along the surface of a road and tiny pieces of grit and carbon powder enter the skin.
  • Gunpowder and other explosions can cause tattooing if the gunpowder penetrates the skin.

What is Laser Tattoo Removal?

Laser Tattoo Removal refers to the non-invasive removal of tattoo pigments. The tattoo removal process is performed using lasers that react with the ink in the tattoo, and break it down. The broken down ink is then absorbed by the body, mimicking the natural fading that time or sun exposure would create.Certain tattoo pigments, such as yellows, greens and fluorescent inks are more challenging to treat than the darker blacks and blues. These pigments are more challenging to treat because they have absorption spectra that fall outside or on the edge of the emission spectra available in the respective tattoo removal laser.

How does Laser Tattoo Removal Work

Tattoos consist of thousands of particles of tattoo pigment suspended in the skin.  While normal human growth and healing processes will remove small foreign particles from the skin, tattoo pigment particles are permanent because they are too big to be removed. Laser treatment causes tattoo pigment particles to heat up and fragment into smaller pieces. These smaller pieces are then removed by normal body processesFor the process of Laser Tattoo Removal to be successful, it is dependent upon the following factors being achieved.
  • The colour of the Laser Light must penetrate sufficiently deep enough to reach the tattoo
  • The color of the laser light must be absorbed by the tattoo pigment more than the surrounding skin. Different tattoo pigments therefore require different laser colors. For example, red light is highly absorbed by green tattoo pigments.
  • The time duration (pulse duration) of the laser energy must be very short, so that the tattoo pigment is heated to fragmentation temperature before its heat can dissipate to the surrounding skin. Otherwise, heating of the surrounding tissue can cause burns or scars.
  • Sufficient energy must be delivered during each laser pulse to heat the pigment to fragmentation. If the energy is too low, pigment will not fragment and no removal will take place.
  • Why use Laser Tattoo removal
  • Reliable
  • Mitigates scarring and unnecessary pain
  • Keeps repeat visits to a minimum

Motivation for Tattoo Removal

•    No longer means what it once did
•    Too conspicuous
•    No longer represents who you are
•    Experienced feelings of regret
•    No longer like the tattoo
•    Suffer embarrassment
•    Change in relationship
•    Employment Issues

Number of laser tattoo removal treatment sessions needed

The process of Laser Tattoo Removal is completed over several treatment sessions.  Treatment sessions are typically spaced eight weeks apart.During each session, sections of the tattoo pigment are targeted reducing the pigment into fragmented particles small enough for the body to remove during the interval between treatment sessions.  This results in the tattoo being lightened over time.  The remaining larger tattoo fragments are then focused on during future treatment sessions causing the tattoo appearance to further lighten.

The following factors with effect the number of sessions required to completely remove the tattoo pigment.

•    Size of tattoo area
•    Colour of skin
•    Skin type
•    Body Location i.e. tattoo’s on the ankle area take longer to remove
•    Colour of ink used within the tattoo
•    Amount of ink used within the tattoo
•    Scarring or change in tissue
•    Layering of tattoo

Success of the Tattoo Removal is dependent on the following factors

•    Health of the Patients immune system.  A healthy patient with achieve best results
•    Adequate hydration to assist with the body’s ability to remove fragmented pigments
•    Adequate sleep (8 Hours per night)
•    Maintaining healthy weight
•    Well balanced diet
•    Exercise
•    Non smoker

Pain Management During Treatment

The laser light pulses produced by the Tattoo removal laser feels similar to being flicked by a rubber band. Prescription strength topical anaesthesia can be applied during the tattoo removal process to assist with pain management if treatment becomes uncomfortable.  Depending on each individual’s pain threshold, some patients forgo any type of anaesthesia.

What to expect after each Tattoo removal treatment

  • Immediately after laser treatment the patient may experience some redness or swelling as if mildly sunburned. Slightly raised, white decolouration of the treated area may be visible.  There may be some bruising and bleeding not uncommon for deeper tattoos. Minimal swelling and redness of the skin surrounding the treated area will subside within 24 hours. The treated area must be kept clean and dry for 5 – 7 days
  • Following treatment a white crust will appear over the affected area, which will separate after approximately 14 days.  Some tattoo pigment may be found within this crust.  Topical antibiotic cream and sterile dressing may be applied if required.
  • Tattoo fading will be noticeable 6 – 8 weeks following treatment. Future sessions can be scheduled depending on the success of the healing process.
  • Exposure of the treated area to the sun should be avoided as this may retard healing and increased risk of hyper pigmentation
  • Side Effects and Complications
  • Changes in normal skin pigmentation – 50% of patients will notice changes in normal skin pigmentation.  These changes usually return to normal within 6 – 12 months. Permanency is very rare
  • Hyper pigmentation – Darkening of the patients normal skin tone die to increased melanin.  This can be treated with sunscreen and hydroquinone’s, with the condition being resolved within a few months.  Longer intervals between treatments are recommended.
  • Changes in skin texture sometimes occur but are resolved within a few months following treatment. Longer intervals between treatments is recommended
  • Early removal of crust or blister increases the possibility of developing scar tissue
  • Patients with a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring have an increased risk of scarring
  • Allergic reaction to tattoo pigment post laser treatment is possible
  • Blistering can occur but with correct post management care practices, adverse effects can be minimised

Risks

  • Hypo pigmentation of treated area (lightening of skin)
  • Hyper pigmentation of treated area (darkening of skin)
  • Blistering may result in scarring
  • Paradoxical darkening (rarely, darkening of tattoo pigment, mainly lighter colours)
